WORLD SCIENTIFIC'S MANAGING DIRECTOR AWARDED ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR 2010 BY FINANCIAL TIMES AND RBS COUTTS
Ms Doreen Liu, Managing Director of World Scientific Publishing, has been honored with the coveted "Entrepreneur of the Year 2010" award at the Women in Asia Awards by The Financial Times/RBS Coutts.

Organised by the Financial Times and RBS Coutts, the Women in Asia Awards is an annual competition open to women working or living in the country where the competition is held. It was held for the first time in Hong Kong last year.

Selected from what was no doubt a highly competitive list of finalists, Ms. Liu is the first Singaporean to win the Entrepreneur of the Year award. With the founding of World Scientific 30 years ago together with her husband, Dr. K K Phua, she has not only contributed greatly to Singapore business, but also furthered the exchange of the best scientific ideas between Asia and the West. Her Entrepreneur of the Year award is recognition of her exceptional vision, business acumen, and drive.

The Financial Times - one of the world's top financial dailies - and RBS Coutts - the UK's oldest bank - established the Women in Asia Awards to recognise successful women and their contributions to business and society, as well as raise their profiles at home and abroad. The other winners at this year's Awards were Angelene Chan (Director of DP Architects) and Lim Ke Xin (Senior Tax Consultant at PwC), who won the "Woman Who Makes a Difference" and "Rising Star" awards respectively.

An annual competition, the Awards are open to women working or living in the country where the competition is held. The winners are later decided by a panel of esteemed judges. Among others, this year's panel included Amanda Brooks (Deputy High Commissioner and Director of Trade and Investment at the British High Commission), Claire Chiang (Senior Vice President of Banyan Tree Holdings Limited), Fang Ai Lian (Chairman of Great Eastern Holdings Ltd), and Lee Suet Fern (Senior Director of Stamford Law Corporation).
