WORLD SCIENTIFIC AUTHOR WINS INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDIES IN SYSTEMS RESEARCH AND CYBERNETICS BOOK AWARD

14 February 2011 - World Scientific author Susanne Vrobel has won the prestigious 2011 International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics (IIAS) Book Award for her book Fractal Time: Why a Watched Kettle Never Boils.

Commended for its high content quality, Vrobel's book won the General/Systems Category and she will receive the award from the President of the International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics, Dr George E Lasker, in the presence of the IIAS Award Council Chairman and the Members of the Award Selection Committee at a Ceremony held on August 4, 2011 in the MLG-Building in Baden-Baden, Germany. Each year, the IIAS usually awards one winner worldwide for each of its 10 to 15 categories, which correspond to the topics presented at its annual symposium. However, if there are no books that make the high standard of selection for that particular year, then that category will not have any winner. This year, Vrobel will receive the award along with Kensei Hiwaki, whose book won the Economics Category.

The book's interdisciplinary introduction to the notion of fractal time would interest cognitive scientists and philosophers working on the topic of time, cyberneticists and systems theorists focusing on nested systems and connectivity, mathematicians and logicians working on fractals and nested systems, and other professions including psychologists, psychoanalysts, psycholinguists, neuro-scientists, medical practitioners, and theoretical physicists. Susanne Vrobel is the Director of the Institute for Fractal Research, Bad Nauheim, Germany. She is a Member of the International Advisory Board of Nonlinear Science and Applications (NSA); The Shanghai Society for Nonlinear Science, Shanghai, China; CHAOS ASBL, The Centre for Hyperincursion and Anticipation in Ordered Systems, University of Li¨¨ge, Belgium; and The Society of Chaos Theory in Psychology and the Life Sciences (SCTPLS), Milwaukee, WI, USA. She has won outstanding scholarly contribution awards in both 2009 and 2010 from the International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics, Baden-Baden, and also the Best Paper Award for the Symposium Cognition, Psychology, Conscious Mind, Intention, Perception and Communication.
