RENOWNED WORLD SCIENTIFIC AUTHOR WINS WORLD FOOD PRIZE 2012
Renowned World Scientific author Dr Daniel Hillel has been awarded the 2012 World Food Prize.

During the recent World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who hosted the Ceremony commended Dr Hillel for conceiving the radical innovation of in micro-irrigation; of transporting water and across arid regions of the world. Dr Hillel's technology which involved dripping, trickling and providing a continuous feed-irrigation, became the catalyst for a food production revolution in the Middle East. This approach also resulted in better land management and has impacted the lives of millions in more than 30 countries.

As part of his efforts to impart knowledge to the scientific community on issues pertaining to agricultural systems, biology and climate change, Dr Hillel is currently in collaboration with World Scientific to publish the Handbook of Climate Change and Agroecosystems, dedicated to elucidating the actual and potential agronomic impacts of climate change, and to formulating effective responses to this global challenge. The first Volume of the Handbook has already been published and the second is currently in the pipeline.

"We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Hillel on this prestigious award for the inspiring work that he has done for the benefit of so many all over the world. It is a great privilege for us to be able to work alongside with him on such an important issue such as climate change and to bring this important knowledge to the scientific community to further its cause." said Mr. Max Phua, World Scientific's Executive Director.

Both Volumes of the Handbook belong to the ICP Series on Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation, and Mitigation, which Dr Hillel co-edits along with Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig, Head of the Climate Impacts Group at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (a branch of NASA also affiliated with Columbia University in New York). More information on Dr Hillel and the award can be found at http://www.worldfoodprize.org/index.cfm?nodeID=47890&audienceID=1. More information on the second volume of the Handbook of Climate Change and Agroecosystems can be found at http://www.worldscibooks.com/environsci/p876.html. Future volumes of the series will be co-published and distributed in cooperation with the American Society of Agronomy. The first volume currently retails for US$168 for the hardcover.
