Putting World Scientific
on the World Map

een to tap potentials of the world's largest consumer markets, World Scientific has created a foothold in both China and India.

An office has just been set up in the Xi Cheng District at the Chinese capital. It is at the heart of a prime location for foreign banks and retail establishments that wish to expand or establish operations in the Mainland. The Beijing office functions as a base for the acquisition of works in the country and also assists in promoting World Scientific's electronic publications to the Chinese academic community.

In addition, it aids in processing and liaising translation right issues with the Chinese publishers. This office complements the role that the World Scientific office in Shanghai (often cited as China's financial capital) plays - that of marketing and promotion.

Meanwhile, WSPC (India) will be relocating from its original site at Bangalore to Chennai where World Scientific's subsidiary office, Stallion Press (India), is. The synergy offers customers with a one-stop service under one roof.

WSPC (India) continues to be a sales office that strives to increase book sales in the Indian market, while Stallion Press (India) serves as a production house for publications. Stallion Press is also capable of handling pre-press projects, including but certainly not limited

to copyediting, typesetting, paging, SGML/XML data capturing/conversion, and artwork.

Apart from China and India, as well as Singapore where World Scientific's headquarters is located, the international publisher also has offices in New Jersey, London, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Overseas markets have in fact made up the bulk of World Scientific's sales and this certainly attests to the fact that knowledge-based products and services know no boundaries.

Going Mass with

ample these: a Physics textbook carrying the imprint known for children's books and classics, or a woman's magazine printed by a university's academic press?

These are just some examples that point to the importance of the positioning of a publisher through its imprints, which explains why World Scientific is taking a stride forward in launching a new imprint.

Termed DL Publishing, it is hoped that the new imprint would one day be synonymous with quality general/popular books meant for the masses.

Among the main areas of focus for the new imprint would be educational titles, bio-graphies/autobiographies of luminaries, and books with a Singaporean flavor.

Watch this space for titles to be carried under DL Publishing.
