Dinner & Dance 1998

New Era. A New Vision.’ This was the theme of World Scientific's Annual Dinner & Dance, held at the world's tallest hotel, the Westin Stamford in Singapore, on 16 January 1998. This year, more than 200 guests were present to celebrate the company's 17th year of operations. Delivering speeches in both English and Chinese at the event, company chairman Dr K K Phua summarised our successes during 1997, emphasising our continued commitment to exploring new and innovative areas of publishing. He was particularly keen to cite such recent examples as the launch of Asia-Pacific Biotech News — World Scientific's first venture into the area of news publications — and our increasing exposure on the Internet.

The company was happy to officially recognise many of its employees for their loyalty and dedication. Fifteen members of staff were presented with 5-year long-service awards, five with 10-year awards, and three with 15-year awards. In addition, the company gave a special award to two of its most valued staff members for their outstanding service over the years. Employee of the Year for 1996 was Ms Chionh Eng Huay, Senior Editor, and Employee of the Year for 1997 was Ms Elsie Tan, Production Supervisor.
