Ms Constance Tan joined our Singapore office in March 1998 as Secretary to our Managing Director. Prior to this, she was the Executive Secretary to the CEO of Lian Huat Shipping Co from 1994 to 1998. Her main responsibilities include monitoring of signed agreements, consolidation of courier shipments to overseas offices, and handling of the MD’s personal matters.
Jeremiah Kwok joined World Scientific in August last year as an Editor. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science in 1998. He is presently responsible for coordinating our Materials Science projects.
Eugene Tan joined World Scientific in July last year as an Administrative Officer. He obtained both his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and Master of Business Systems from Monash University, and was previously working as a sales engineer at Esso Singapore. Currently, aside from his administrative duties, Eugene is in charge of several editorial projects.
Ms Joy Quek joined our Singapore office in October last year as an Editor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Botany (Hons) from the National University of Singapore. She is presently responsible for coordinating our Life Sciences and Environmental Science projects.
USA
Ms Qin Jing joined our US office as a Commissioning Editor in February this year. After obtaining a Masters in Arts in Mathematics from Harvard University, she worked as an Instructor for Calculus and Multivariable Calculus at the university. She is expected to obtain her PhD from Harvard this year. As a Commissioning Editor, she is mainly in charge of Mathematical Science acquisitions.
EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AWARD 1998
The Employee of the Year Award is presented to a World Scientific staff member annually, in recognition of their invaluable contribution to our success. As a token of our company’s appreciation, the winner receives one extra week of paid leave, a return ticket to London with accommodation provided, and a US$350 cash allowance.
Employee of the Year for 1998 is Ms Lee Boon Kiang, Personal Assistant to our Chairman. She has been with the company for 13 years, having joined the Singapore office in 1986 as a Clerk/Typist. In 1990, she became a Secretarial Assistant, and she was promoted to Secretary in 1993, and then again to Personal Assistant in 1997.
When asked how she felt about receiving the award, Boon Kiang beamed and replied, “This is a very pleasant surprise, and I am truly delighted.”
