A New Look for THE NEW MILLENNIUM

The World Scientific homepage (www.worldscientific.com) has been given a refreshing new format, the aim being essentially to enable fast, efficient navigation. Visitors can now leave their e-mail addresses on the homepage to receive updates on future publications.

The company has launched a new website called the Chinese Professionals Network (www.networkchinese.com), which is the first and the most comprehensive website for Chinese professionals worldwide. The aim of this website is to facilitate communication and networking among Chinese professionals around the world. Nobel Laureate Professor C N Yang and former UC Berkeley Chancellor, Professor Chang-Lin Tien are among the well-known professionals who are part of this new network. Interesting features of the website include News in Brief, Professional Chinese Organizations Listing, Important Statistics, Information Technology, E-Commerce, New Publications, High Tech Company Profiles, Online Forum, Social and Cultural News, and Employment Notices.

The Asia-Pacific Biotech News (APBN) (www.asiabiotech.com.sg) website has also undergone restructuring. The website now allows up to a total of three full length articles to be readily accessible electronically without the need for downloading. Readers can also leave their e-mail addresses on the website to receive the contents of the latest issue and a list of recommended biotechnology publications. Organizations are also given the opportunity to post newsworthy information to be considered for publication in future issues of APBN.

EastAsianStudies.com (www.eastasianstudies.com), another of the company’s new websites, is dedicated to the promotion and sale of high quality books and journals in economics, politics, social issues, arts and current affairs pertaining to East Asia. This is possible through frequent collaboration with top educational and research organizations in Asia, such as the National University of Singapore and the East Asian Institute. In addition to promoting and selling books and journals published by the division of East Asian Studies of the World Scientific Publishing Group, the website also sells high quality books from other publishers in the same field. The site also acts as a platform for authors to send their publication proposals to our rapidly expanding program. Each month, a new research article on East Asia is featured. Reviews can be submitted electronically as well. Visitors to the site can register themselves on the mailing list to receive information on newly published titles. They will also be informed of any special promotions or discounts for publications.

A NEW WAY TO
ACCESS JOURNAL INFORMATION

orld Scientific has recently joined a group of 15 other leading scientific and scholarly publishers in an international initiative named Crossref, aimed at providing a joint reference-linking service for researchers.

Scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of this year, this broad-based industry-wide initiative will enable researchers to move easily from a reference in a journal article to the contents of a cited journal article. More than three million articles will be linked through Crossref for a start , and more than half a million articles will be added on every year thereafter. Such linking will enhance the efficiency of browsing and reading the primary scientific and scholarly literature.

Doreen Liu, Managing Director of World Scientific said, “This is the most exciting initiative from the STM group of publishers I can remember during my 18 years in the business. World Scientific was set up with the objective of serving the scientific community and I believe this initiative will greatly enhance our ability to do so.”
