Wuhan Book fair

The Beijing and Shanghai offices of World Scientific Publishing, together with the China Education Publication Import & Export Company (CEPIEC) jointly organized a book fair on specialized book titles from the 14 - 15 May 2008.

The book fair was held at the Wuhan University in Wuhan, Hebei. Some 311 titles which were published after 2007 were presented during the book fair. The event was a success, with a considerable number of acquisition editors from the seven major libraries in Wuhan attending the fair to make their book selections for their upcoming catalogs. Additionally, quite a number of lecturers and students from the Wuhan University also attended the book fair.

During the book fair, World Scientific also secured sizable book orders. Steven Shi Hong Bing from World Scientific Publishing's Beijing office said: "As Wuhan has always been an important market for WSPC, I'd propose holding a book fair in Wuhan every year, and to make that a recurrent activity in our calendar."

100 inspiring Rafflesians: 1823-2003

More than 150 guests attended the book launch of 100 Inspiring Rafflesians, on 29 February 2008.

One of the highlights of the event, which was held at the Raffles Junior College, included a performance by Mrs Carmee Lim, the former principal of the Raffles Girls School who sang several songs with the RGS choir. Taking to the rostrum was author of the book, Mr Tan Guan Heng, who delivered a speech about his experience of writing the book. Mr Tan is a Raffles old boy and president of the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped.

100 inspiring Rafflesians is a 272-page tome, featuring 100 individuals who have studied at the various Raffles institutions between 1823 and 2003, and have went on to take top positions in Singapore's public and community service.

These biographies contain little known facts of interest, which have been embellished with personal anecdotes obtained from those interviewed. Some of these profiles include former presidents Benjamin Sheares and Yusok Ishak, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, singer Kit Chan as well as thespian Emma Yong.
